Morris Air National Guard Base in Tucson, home of the 162nd Wing, added a BAK-14 barrier on a second runway. Global Data Specialists extended the base's existing GDS PAACS to control it rather than installing a separate system. GDS had already upgraded the base's PAACS with encrypted CPUs and radios in 2021.
New Controllers and Panels
GDS supplied a control and a non-control controller for the new barrier, added I/O modules to the controllers already installed in the tower and shop, and provided two new tower panels and a shop panel.
Re-Encrypting a Dual-Runway System
Adding the runway turned a single-runway installation into a dual-runway system. GDS built a new dual-runway application and re-encrypted every site so the existing and new equipment operate as one system. Installation was scheduled around the base's non-flying times.
The contract was completed and closed in early 2024.
