Global Data Specialists supplied and installed a new encrypted PAACS for Fort Smith Regional Airport in Arkansas, which shares its runway with Ebbing Air National Guard Base. The airport sponsored the project, and the Air Force required the encrypted GDS system for the arresting gear.
Seven Controllers, Four Pits
The system controls two BAK-14 barriers housed in four pits. GDS supplied seven controllers covering the control tower, the control and non-control pits, the fire station and the maintenance shop, built on Motorola ACE3600 hardware with encrypted radio communications.
Installation and Testing
GDS installed the system in late July 2024 and completed the work at the start of August. Cycle testing caught raise and lower wired in reverse at the barriers, and GDS made a return trip to correct it.
Continued Support
In 2025, after a barrier pit flooded, GDS supplied a replacement unit.
